LEV Design & Appraisal

The guidance given within HSG258 recommends that a suitably competent person is responsible for the design of the system, with suitable knowledge of current techniques and legislation to ensure the system will perform as expected by the Client. This is important for many reasons, particularly before any work begins:

  • A clear scope of work is defined at the earliest stage

  • Specifications on performance are agreed

  • For modifications to existing systems, feasibility is established.

  • Changes to legislation or exposure limits will be highlighted

  • Best available techniques will be reviewed

  • Ensure compliance at the through examination and test

  • Drawings can be prepared and agreed

  • The design duties expressed by the CDM Regs extend to LEV Designers

Careful planning will produce the most cost effective installation which will meet the Clients needs and avoid rework, which is so common with LEV modifications.

Typical Applications include:

  • Preparation of full tender documents for both new and modified equipment. Many of our Clients do not have the knowledge or skills to prepare a design scope for LEV systems and it is often left to the supplier to interpret their requirements.

  • Appraisal of supplier / contractor proposals prior to placing orders for equipment or services.

  • Independant appraisal of new installations to verify performance.

  • Training and Logbook provision - HSG258 requires the Client to have a system in place to record changes and maintenance to LEV systems and for operators to understand it's function and how to recognise and report faults.

  • AutoCad drawing of new and existing systems to support the thorough examination these should show main components, duct sizes, filters, fans etc.
